5/3/2019 Caring Bridge

Journal entry by Al Negstad — 29 minutes ago
Three funerals are scheduled simultaneously next Saturday, all of which I'd attend were they at different times.  Duane Addison, age 88, his funeral will be at Nativity Lutheran, New Brighton, is a friend from the days we lived in Sioux Falls. Luann Muller, age 80, is a friend from my congregation and her funeral will be at Grace University Lutheran.  Tim Fisher, age 54, is a friend via L, and his funeral will be at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church.  The Minneapolis Star Tribune did a nice feature obituary about Tim today, like they did for Joanne.
Naturally these deaths put me in mind of Joanne's funeral just over a year ago.  There is comfort for me in believing that we made good choices for Joanne's funeral.  She planned the service well, visitation was very helpful, the funeral was done very well, the after-service lunch was great and served well, burial a week later in South Dakota was good, the funeral home was first rate.  It left us with the comfort of no regrets about choices we made.  The piano and the LSS Homeless Youth programs were perfect designees for memorial gifts.
It's always poignant to attend funerals since Joanne's but it isn't really traumatic.  It is a time to remember, reflect, grieve and give thanks.  I give thanks for Joanne, life shared, for family and friends, for the blessings that allowed us give her a proper funeral and burial and much more.

Blessings,

Al
