4/1/2019 Caring Bridge

Journal entry by Al Negstad — a minute ago
What is there to say on her birthday?  Yes, it is April Fools Day, but I seldom made light of her on her day.  Her mother did, however.  Joanne told stories of chocolate covered cherries that were, in fact, chocolate covered cotton balls and chocolate birthday cake over tin foil.  There was no need for me to carry on that tradition.
Some education of me was necessary.  Coming from a home that didn't emphasize birthdays much nor focus on which day it was celebrated I needed to learn that the actual day was important.  Eventually I got with the program and did host some huge birthday parties for Joanne and 200 of her closest friends.
Yes, the presence of absence is profound today, but once again family and friends have been here for me.   In the midst of my sadness I remain profoundly grateful.  Thank you!

Blessings,

Al
