Journal entry by Joanne Negstad — May 31, 2018
There are so many things I wish I would have asked. "That house key in your dresser with the purple ribbon, what is it for?" "That beautiful wood bowl, birch maybe, who gave that to us?" "Those two new polo shirts in my size, what's the story on them?" "Tell me about your passion for homeless youth?" "How do you understand your commitment.?"
Joanne's passion for the cause of homeless youth and the LSS program to those youth was evident since she first heard about it. "Homeless youth" she said without a moments thought or hesitation when I asked her about memorial designation. Gifts in memory of Joanne to that program for homeless youth run by LSS have now totaled over $7,000.00. She would be so pleased and filled with gratitude for this generous response. What a blessing to see her passion affirmed in such a tangible manner!
Perhaps we can guess that she responded to the plight of homeless youth out of her deep commitment to justice, That plight likely touched something deep in her heart...a mother's heart. How wonderful that even her death can be the catalyst for good.
Blessings,
Al
