Morning walk...

Why is it easier for me to walk in the morning? It seems before breakfast is best. Leaving the house at 6:50 launched me into rush hour; 4 vehicles in 1.6 miles, but I wear blaze orange. The walk to the cemetery brings me by a large slough, which some have mistaken for Lake Sinai. Lake Sinai is now about 1800 acres, or about 4 square miles, and is a popular fishing lake.

Wetlands teem with wildlife until the weather turns cold. In addition to the numerous ducks and egrets I saw this morning I got a good look at a least bittern. It flew from a dead branch to some cattails giving me a very good view. Look it up in your Funk & Wagnalls or your bird book.

BREAKAGE, by Mary Oliver

It’s like a schoolhouse
of little words,
thousands of words.
First you figure out what each one means by itself,
the jingle, the periwinkle, the scallop
  full of moonlight.
Then you begin, slowly, to read the whole story.

Oliver wrote this about walking by the sea. It's also a good metaphor for reading. Currently I'm reading three books, one on Kindle from the library and two on paper. I read some in each every day so I can remember the thread. Two are novels and the third a memoir. As I finish them I will report.  So many good books and so.....no, now I have time!

Takk for alt,

Al

PS Beginning September 1, I will only post on www.negstad.blogspot.com and not on Caring Bridge.
