Solitude

Simplicity
by Henry David Thoreau

"Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as
two or three, and keep your accounts on your thumb nail …

I find it wholesome to be alone the greater part of the time.
To be in company, even with the best, is soon wearisome
and dissipating. I love to be alone. I never found the
companion that was so companionable as solitude …"

I'd not go as far as Thoreau "...I never found the

companion that was so companionable as solitude …"  but, solitude suits me well. Some daily phone conversations and I'm not lonely, just alone. In yesterday's blog about the consignment sale I didn't mention that I did have the opportunity of visiting with family and acquaintances at a safe distance.

Awakened to thunder during the night and blessing of .5" rain in town and .7" at the south cornfield. Perhaps next year I'll get a rain gauge up by the north field.

Spotted two least bitterns, at least I thought they were bittern's (pun in case you missed it, on my morning walk. They are wading birds but these were perched on a dead branch. Look them up in your bird book.

Some have asked why I bought a tractor yesterday. It's a COVID gift to myself becasue I doubt I will get to Thigh land this winter,

Takk for alt,

Al

PS Since I took over Joanne's Caring Bridge during her hospice daily I've also posted the same message on my blog. Caring Bridge has some frustrating quirks, such as not printing the picture in yesterday's post. Effective September 1, I will only post on my blog so you can move to it before then. Go to www.negstad.blogspot.com and paste it into your browser as a favorite so when I post you'll get a notice.

I'm glad this 1928 tractor is going to a collector and not the scrapyard. (Sinai Bank in the background.)
