Going once, going twice, SOLD!

Sinai, the village in which The Little House Resides, has a posted population of 120. That may be a stretch. The town is home to a grain elevator, bank, butcher shop, post office, American Legion Hall, church...Lutheran and , very importantly a volunteer fire department and EMT service. The nearest hospital is in Brookings, 15 miles away. When I need to burn grassland I hire the firemen to conduct the burn.

The primary fundraiser for the fire fighters is an annual, skipped last year, consignment auction. Perhaps the missed year led to a phenomenal amount of items for sale. Every thing from a chicken plucker, gravel truck, fencing, hog  feeders, machinery, lawn mowers, bikes, household items, sprayers, wagons, milk cans, antiques. tires, a forklift run on propane, wood chipper, tractors, tools,.......... The sale began at 10:00 and finished at 3:30 and much of the time there were two rings.

While it is a lot of work it's a great fundraiser. The auctioneers volunteer their services and the 10% commission on the sale price goes to the fire department. Everything sells! Who knew someone would want a chicken waterer?

Over 200 persons claimed bidding numbers and then there were many look-e-loos without numbers. Because this is South Dakota, less than a dozen persons were masked, COVID will not matter here until grandma dies. Carefully, I stayed upwind and a distance from the crowd.

Two of my tractors sold and I only bought one so now I have only three, all of which run. But my best purchase was a bike for a granddaughter,

Takk for alt,

Al

PS Since I took over Joanne's Caring Bridge during her hospice I've also posted the same message on my blog. Caring Bridge has some frustrating quirks, such as not printing the picture in yesterday's post. Effective September 1, I will only post on my blog so you can move to it before then. Go to www.negstad.blogspot.com and paste it into your browser as a favorite so when I post you'll get a notice.
