All my flights were ontime, everything went according to plan. The flight from Mpls to JFK was as advertised. With a four hour layover and a short walk between gates boarding to Athens went according to plan. I managed to get some sleep on the nine hour flight to Athens. Steady turbulence shook the plane over the ocean which smoothed out over Europe.
The plan was that a bus would pick up me and several others of our group at the airport and transport us to the hotel. Well, like the group going through Atlanta, this group going through Boston were also delayed. I arrived in Athens at 8:00 and now this group wouldn't arrive until 2:00. So, I was to take the train.
Following the signs to the train in the station I encountered a young women at the information desk. She gave helpful advice about the train and ticket purchase, She looked at me and said "if you're over 65 the ticket is half price; 4:50 Euro instead of 9 Euro." I don't often get asked if I'm over 65. 😊 On to the waiting train I went.
At the airport there were few passengers. At each of many stops many persons got on and almost no one got off. By the time we reached central Athens, and my stop, the train was crammed. Most of those passengers exited with me. Following the crowd up a long escalator we arrived at the platform for other trains with no exit in sight. This required me going down the long stairway, no escalator, and finding the exit sign I should have seen originally. However, if everything went according to plan there would be fewer stories to tell.
That's my bit of adventure. Now all except the two travelling through Atlanta have arrived at the Central Hotel, downtown Athens. In a little while we're going to dinner. I suspect tomorrow we will walk to the Parthenon.
Takk for alt,
Al
