8/31/2018 Caring Bridge

Journal entry by Joanne Negstad — Aug 31, 2018
The bi-annual gathering of my mother's family, i.e., the descendants of Olai & Minnie Bergh, began today.  We are at Joy Ranch, just north of Watertown, SD.  All of Olai's & Minnie's children have died, 5 while they were still living, as have many of their grandchildren.  There are 8 grandchildren remaining, all of whom are at this reunion; 6 of my cousins, my brother and I.  In this generation I am the youngest one left.
Joanne fit seemlessly into this family from the begining.  She even know some of them before we met.  She went to high school with my late brother Dick's wife, at Minnehaha Academy.  Cousin Louise and Joanne were childhood friends, who lived in the same neighborhood in St. Paul.  Her values were in sinc with this family; highly churched, world travelers, socially engaged and educated.
It's hard to be here without her.  She would have loved to see and visit with these people, she came to know and love over the years.  She's missing so much.
On the other hand, it is good to be here with those who knew and loved her.  Conversations turn quite naturally to stories about her and those stories feed my soul.  There can never be too much talk about her.

Blessings,

Al
