When politicians, and others, claim to base their decisions on the Bible it's well to be suspicious. Probably no other book has ever been subject to such misinterpretation. Hermeneutics are principles for interpretation of texts and desperately important in right understanding of Scripture. In the Lutheran tradition Luther's Small Catechism, which many of us had to memorize in confirmation classes, properly understood are a guide to Bible reading. If our Bible reading leads to opinions contrary to the Catechism we should think again.
