Journal entry by Al Negstad — a minute ago
Two fine musicians from my church, Sam Rudy, violin and Steve Self, piano offered an exceptionally fine recital this afternoon. It was the kind of concert that would have thrilled Joanne. Listening to the music I was thinking about Joanne, and "her" piano I went back in memory to her last Mother's Day.
It was Mother's Day 2017, when she suffered an episode of temporary global amnesia and lost all memory of the day, from about noon until 10:30 p.m. She functioned quite normally through the experience though seeming a bit spacey. The afternoon, back yard cookout with the family, was the kind of thing she thoroughly enjoyed. It's sad she missed the memory of it. When I realized that she had no memory of the afternoon I brought her to the emergency room. There was one moment of levity there. The neurologist examining her asked "What special day is this?" expecting her to say "Mother's Day." But her response was "It's the third Sunday of Easter." That was likely a first for the doctor. By midnight her memory was back minus everything between noon and midnight.
Takk for Alt,
Al
